A house - in a tree?

Towering 19 metres above Adventureland is the very hard-to-miss Tarzan's Treehouse. Based on the 1999 animated film Tarzan, this interactive exploration area of the park is a combination of Disney storytelling, Imagineering and pure fun. Made up of over 10,000 crafted leaves and a lovingly crafted trunk that will make you wonder whether or not it is real, you'll want to spend a bit of time poke through every nook and cranny in this Treehouse.

Given that Tarzan's Treehouse is located on the appropriately named Tarzan's Island - smack bang in the middle of the Rivers of Adventure - guests can only access the attraction via the Rafts to Tarzan's Island. Although the official Hong Kong Disneyland literature will refer to all three of these things as separate attractions, they are essentially all part of the one experience. The log rafts leave on a regular basis from the shores of the Rivers of Adventure, meaning that you'll rarely find yourself stuck on either side of the River.

Tarzan's Island and Treehouse differs from other Hong Kong Disneyland attractions in the sense that once you've arrived on the Island, you can explore the attraction at your own pace. However, as they say in the classics, the only way is up!

As guests climb up the vertical pathway, they will encounter three 'huts' that form the Treehouse. Each hut tells a part of Tarzan's story, and has a number of things to see and do inside. The first hut is the highest platform on the tree, at 12 metres above the ground! Here we see the aftermath of the room where Tarzan's parents lost their lives at the hands of the vicious leopard Sabor.  The second hut shows us a slightly more loving scene, of Tarzan's adoptive ape mother Kala gently cradling the infant Tarzan. Finally, the third and main room allows us to see Tarzan in all his glory, posing for one of Jane's sketches. There are also plenty of interactive elements to these rooms, so don't be afraid to poke about and see how some things work.

Once you've reached the top, you'll be able to experience one of the best views of Adventureland - and beyond - that Hong Kong Disneyland has to offer. Hopefully you haven't left your camera behind, as you'll be able to spot the Jungle River Cruise dock, the Hotels and many other Hong Kong Disneyland icons. 

Can't make it up the tree? Nevermind, there is plenty to do on the banks of the Island. Professor Archimedes Porter has all sorts of experiments going on, but you don't have to be a rocket scientist to join in. You can play some music on pots and pans, bang a steel drum, pull a vine to hear an animal noise, crank your own slide show, work the bellows to fan a fire and wind-up ye olde record player for that top-tapping beat.

Like Main Street, it is easy to ignore this attraction in lieu of the more glamarous rides that populate the park. Indeed, far more people will be interested in the Jungle River Cruise that sails past Tarzan's Island. However, although this is aimed primarily at younger children, it is worth putting aside at least a bit of time simply to admire the work that has gone into creating this mammoth icon.
