If there is one ride and soundtrack that will forever be the most recognisable of all the Disney attractions over the last fifty years of Disney Theme Parks, it would have to be it's a small world. Originally built for the 1964/1965 New York World's Fair, the Mary Blair-designed boat ride has been a feature of every Disney Park around the world. Through song and animatronics, it represents a world brought together in peaceful coexistence, much like the philosophy behind Disneyland itself.

Note: This attraction has not yet been completed. It is due to be opened in 28 April 2008 as part of the Fantasyland expansion. As such, the information below is subject to change at any time.

On 14 December 2006, Disney announced that they would be building a version of this attraction in Hong Kong Disneyland. Details of that announcement can be found here.

In essence, this ride will be the same as the other versions of the ride with a few key differences. The ride will still see passengers board a boat, before being taken through audio-animatronic representations of the people of the world in 'doll form', each singing a version of the theme song in their native tongue. This will culminate in the people of the world coming together to sing the song in unison.

For Hong Kong Disneyland's ride, guests will also be treated to a few unique treats not seen in any other version, inlcuding:

• Over 30 Disney characters integrated into the attraction, including Aladdin, Mulan and Peter Pan
• An expanded Asia section which will include famous regional landmarks such as the Great Wall, the Temple of Heaven and the Hong Kong skyline
• A Middle Eastern scene
• A new North American scene not even found in North America
• A grand finale with optical effects not found on any other Disney ride

Construction began on the attraction in mid-2006, and details of that construction can be seen by following the links below.  In late-May 2007, PICO were announced as the contractors for completing the show set installation, which includes owner finished show set, shop drawings, show props and mechanical equipment installation, special effects installation, show platform fabrication and installation, scenic and show paint, a/v speakers and cameras, theme lighting installation, murals and scenic painting and artists work. This part of the project was expected to be completed in December 2007.
